# South Korea Payment Methods

> Accept Kakao Pay, Naver Pay, and PAYCO from South Korean customers alongside cards, billed in KRW. Learn about availability, subscriptions, and configuration.

Let South Korean customers pay with the wallets and cards they use every day. Dodo Payments supports the Korean wallets **Kakao Pay**, **Naver Pay**, and **PAYCO**, alongside **Korean local cards** and international cards, all billed in **KRW** (South Korean won). At checkout, each wallet redirects the customer to the wallet provider to approve the payment.

## Why Korean Payment Methods Matter

<CardGroup cols={3}>
  <Card title="Widely Used Wallets" icon="wallet">
    Digital wallets such as Kakao Pay and Naver Pay made up 35% of South Korean e-commerce spending in 2025, second only to credit cards, according to the Worldpay Global Payments Report 2026.

## Supported Methods

The table lists each method's type, subscription support, and minimum amount.

| Method | Type | Subscriptions | Min Amount |
| :- | :- | :-: | :- |
| **Kakao Pay** | Wallet | Yes | \~\$1.00 |
| **Naver Pay** | Wallet | Yes | \~\$1.00 |
| **PAYCO** | Wallet | No | \~\$1.00 |
| **Korean Local Cards** | Card | Yes | 50 KRW |
| **Credit & Debit Cards** | Card (international) | Yes | 50 KRW |

The wallet minimum is approximate because the wallets appear only when the KRW total is worth at least \$1.00 at the current exchange rate. Cards follow the KRW checkout minimum of 50 KRW. A KRW payment must also be at least the equivalent of \$0.50 for one-time payments and \$1.00 for subscriptions. See [Minimum Amounts](/features/adaptive-currency#minimum-amounts).

<Info>
  Wallet availability depends on the transaction type. **Kakao Pay** and **Naver Pay** are offered on both one-time payments and subscriptions. **PAYCO** is offered on one-time payments only. All three require a **KRW** billing currency.
</Info>

## Configuration

### API Method Types

Pass these values in `allowed_payment_method_types`:

| Type | Description |
| :- | :- |
| `kakao_pay` | Kakao Pay wallet |
| `naver_pay` | Naver Pay wallet |
| `payco` | PAYCO wallet |
| `credit` | Credit cards, including Korean local cards |
| `debit` | Debit cards, including Korean local cards |

### Example: South Korea-Focused Checkout

This session offers the three Korean wallets and cards to a customer billed in KRW:

```javascript theme={null}
// `client` is an initialized DodoPayments client.
const session = await client.checkoutSessions.create({
  product_cart: [{ product_id: 'pdt_123', quantity: 1 }],
  allowed_payment_method_types: [
    'kakao_pay',
    'naver_pay',
    'payco',
    'credit',
    'debit'
  ],
  billing_currency: 'KRW',
  billing_address: {
    country: 'KR',
    zipcode: '06236'
  },
  return_url: 'https://example.com/success'
});
```

### Requirements

The Korean wallets appear at checkout only when all of these are true:

1. The **billing currency** is KRW.
2. The KRW total is worth at least \$1.00.
3. **Adaptive Currency** is enabled. Dodo Payments bills in KRW only when Adaptive Currency is enabled.

<Warning>
  If Adaptive Currency is disabled, customers in South Korea aren't billed in KRW, and the Korean wallets don't appear.
</Warning>

KRW is a zero-decimal currency: the smallest unit is one won, with no minor units. Send and read KRW amounts as whole won, without multiplying or dividing by 100. For example, an amount of `15000` is ₩15,000.

  <Accordion title="Match currency to region">

## Troubleshooting

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Korean wallets not appearing at checkout">
    **Check:**

    1. Is the billing currency `KRW`?
    2. Is Adaptive Currency enabled?
    3. Is the wallet (`kakao_pay`, `naver_pay`, or `payco`) included in `allowed_payment_method_types`?
    4. Is the KRW total worth at least \$1.00?

    **Solution:** Verify that `billing_currency` is `"KRW"`. To see every eligible method, remove `allowed_payment_method_types` temporarily.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Wallet missing for a subscription">
    **Cause:** PAYCO is offered for one-time payments only. For recurring billing, use Kakao Pay or Naver Pay.

    **Solution:** Include `kakao_pay` and `naver_pay` in `allowed_payment_method_types` for subscription checkouts.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Korean card declined on the international network">
    **Cause:** Some Korean cards run on domestic networks that international card networks can't process.

    **Solution:** Keep `credit` and `debit` enabled so customers can pay with Korean local cards.
  </Accordion>
